Today is the Chicago Marathon which was my very first marathon 15 years ago today! I had no idea what to expect from a marathon! I drank little, I went out too fast, and I barely fueled. And, well you can figure out how that worked out. When you are walking and can see the finish line for the Chicago Marathon and you can feel, hear, and see all the crowd support and you can’t get the legs to restart again; well you have officially bonked!! Seven marathons later I got it right in Phili and qualified for Boston! ( although sadly, since the times have been adjusted, that time would not gain me entry today). But, I will continue to live in the past on this one.
Today I am going down memory lane as I see all of the social media posts from Chicago. I decided to pull out my scrapbook. Yes that’s right I have a scrap book of all my running memorabilia. I used to scrap book a ton. This was back when Creative Memories was the only place to buy scrap booking stuff, before Snapfish offered nice premade photo albums, and Michael’s was just starting to get on board with the idea. Now I have too many oversized photo albums. Just saying.
I’m glad I kept all of my numbers and spent the time to place them in a book. I even included the small photos they used to send you if you wanted to order any. No sure the photographer would be pleased to see this. Do they even still do that, or is it all online now?
It is amazing how far running apparel has evolved. Note white sneakers and cotton t-shirt tucked in ! #nowords
I guess its time to add some more pages.
What have you done with your running numbers? Photos?
